Dr Crowhurst receives Master of Philosophy (Clinical Science)

Dr Crowhurst was pleased to receive a Master of Philosophy (Clinical Science) degree from the University of Adelaide in May 2024 for his research into the use of impulse oscillometry for chronic lung allograft dysfunction.

His work involved a multi-year study conducted at the Royal Adelaide Hospital aiming to determine whether this technology may add to the management of lung transplant recipients. Impulse oscillometry, which is easier to perform compared with conventional spirometry, was found to correlate well in lung transplant recipients with normal lung allografts as well as in those affected by chronic lung allograft dysfunction.

Impulse oscillometry may grow to become a common tool used for the management of all patients with chronic lung disease, and familiarity with this technology will be important for all respiratory specialists.
