Impulse oscillometry in lung transplant recipients

Dr Crowhurst and his colleagues recently published a research paper in Transplantation regarding the use of impulse oscillometry in lung transplant recipients. Such individuals are at risk of a condition called ‘bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome’, which is one of the biggest problems affecting this patient group. Impulse oscillometry is a non-invasive tool for assessing lung physiology that may be useful for conditions like bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome.

Dr Crowhurst was the principal investigator in a prospective diagnostic study investigating this question, and the results are available in abstract form here .

Patients with chronic respiratory conditions, particularly those predominantly affecting the airways like COPD / asthma, may see impulse oscillometry being used more frequently in their care in the future.
